Destruction!

What are potentially more dangerous to people: volcanoes or earthquakes? Why?
  • Earthquakes are more dangerous to people due to its shaking of the ground which causes major destruction.




Location -Chile

Date-May 29,1960

This earthquake was a magnitude of 9.5 and killed 32,290 people. The coast of repairs was 500 million dollars.





Location-Anchorage

Date-March 28,1964

This earthquake had a magnitude of 9.2 which killed 131 people. The coast of repairs for this earthquake was 500 million dollars.





Location-Tokyo

Date-September 1,1923

This earthquake had a magnitude of 8.3 and it also killed over 140,000 people.

3. What are three things that you learned?
Three things that I have learned are was that there was an earthquake in Rwanda's Western Province, this earthquake claimed dozens of lives and homes, there is also a reconstruction of homes that a spouse to happen this mount.

4. What are two things that you found interesting?
Two things that I found interesting was how the earthquake happened in 2008 and the government collected money and only twenty-five homes have been rebuilt, I also found it interesting how many homes and schools where destroyed and how many lives where claimed.

One question I still have is how does seismically active play a role in earthquakes.

Three things that I have learned where earthquakes cause tsunamis, tsunamis travel rapidly across ocean basis, tsunami races away from the epicenter.

Two things that I found interesting where that tsunamis are not a single wave but are a wave train, I also found it interesting how accumulated seismic energy causes tsunamis.


5. What is one question that you still have?
One question I still have is can a tsunami be stoped by adding water to shallow water to make the water the same so the tsunami cant build speed.

Map Projections

Today you learned about the four major map projections. Which one is your favorite? Why? Include at least 1 picture.


Today we learned about map projections there are four types of map projections they are the Mercator map projection, the Robinson map projection, the conic map projection, and the Gnomonic map projection. My favorite map projection is the Robinson map projection because it is shows the most distances and sizes and because it also shows the most accurate shapes.

Mass Movement

Define mass movement.
Mass movement is the down slope movement of rock,and soil under the direct influence of gravity.

What are the different types of mass movements?
The different types of mass movement are rockfalls, slides,slumps,flows, and creeps.
Which mass movement has the greatest potential to cause the most damage? Why?
The mass movement that has the greatest potential to cause the most damage is flows one in pacific is a mudflow which causes dangerous and destructive damages.
